Zuri Health is a Kenyan startup founded by Ikechukwu Arthur Anoke and Daisy Isiaho in 2020. Through its mobile app, website, and SMS service, Zuri Health operates as a virtual hospital that offers people in Sub-Saharan Africa access to high-quality, cheap healthcare. It has since expanded its service areas to include Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zambia.
Undoubtedly one of Africa’s biggest problems is access to healthcare facilities in rural areas. Zuri Health is helping to bridge this gap by providing virtual consultations, health information, and remote monitoring. And given that 40% of mobile phone owners in Sub-Saharan Africa now use smartphones, Zuri Health developed additional functionality to ensure no one is left out. This feature would include the other 60% of people who do not own smartphones or have access to the Internet. This reduces the need for physical visits and traveling long distances to get treated; hence by adopting technology, Zuri Health has succeeded very fast.
With Zuri on the market, areas with a shortage of doctor’s benefit from virtual consultations. The patients can access timely medical advice and prescriptions, among other services, in the comfort of their homes. Besides that, the app provides a wealth of health medical information to help one make informed choices about their well-being.
Speaking to Citizen, Zuri Health has established partnerships with more than 16 significant mobile network operators in seven nations, resulting in more than 400,000 SMS customers, 300 physicians, 27 lab and diagnostic facilities, and 15 pharmacies across its markets. It is critical to recognize that the results of Zuri Health may vary depending on its reach, user adoption, and integration with existing healthcare systems. Still, we can attest it is a unique idea revolutionizing the health sector. More Zuri Health startups are what we need.
